How to schedule an appointment

Please call or WhatsApp our friendly practice administrator, Amanda, on 061 534 7935. Alternatively, you can email us at reception@danielluttigpsychology.co.za, or use the contact form available on the website. We offer flexible consultation hours as we do understand that not everyone can make it during regular business hours (please see the operating hours on the website).

Fees

My practice is registered with most medical aids and hence I will be able to claim on your behalf to your medical aid. Our cash rate is also slightly below the medical aid rate to ensure no co-payment would be necessary for you. Sessions can be paid via EFT or via the card facility machine in my office.

Session length
  • Time: For an hour booking, 50 minutes is spent on the therapeutic consultation. I generally use time after an appointment to privately reflect on our session and make confidential notes.
  • Process (how often do we meet): Length of therapy is usually a collaborative decision and can be reviewed after every couple of sessions. There are a variety of factors to consider such as finances and the nature of the therapeutic goals.
What to expect

It is normal to be scared or anxious, or perhaps even excited. Congratulations on taking this important step, irrespective of whether this is your first time or not. The first session involves an intake assessment to gather an overview of important history about your life and current functioning, in order to best determine how to help you. When you arrive at my practice you are welcome to be seated in the waiting room by the friendly receptionist. I will come and fetch you at the designated time. You are welcome at any point to ask any questions related to therapy and the therapy process.

Consent

Before your first session you will be provided with a consent form with all the terms and conditions related to the therapy process. This can be signed electronically before or on the day of the session, and you are welcome to ask any questions.

3. You may be consulting other professionals about the challenges that brought you here. It is important that these people and I know that we are working together.
4. I provide psychotherapy. Unless required by law, I do not write reports for medico-legal matters.

Confidentiality

1. You have the right to confidentiality. This means that information you provide to me cannot be shared with others unless, you, the client, have given me permission to do so.
2. OR, it is being given to another health professional (such as a psychiatrist, social worker, nurse) who is part of/ needed to help with your treatment.
3. OR, if I am required to do so by law (for example, if you or someone else is at risk of injury or death; child abuse) or court order.
However, it is rare that I must break confidentiality, and where I am realistically able to, I will discuss the process with you first.

Personal details

1. As you are entering a therapeutic contract, the processing of your personal data is necessary. I take the storing and accessing of your personal information very seriously and confidentiality is of utmost importance. Your personal information will be stored securely at all times and only accessed by me. In the case of someone else being responsible for your account, only the necessary details needed to process the payment will be shared.

Medical Aid

I am registered with most medical aids. I use sophisticated software to ensure that medical claims are sent immediately and that client benefits are assessed before every session. However, it is still your responsibility to ensure that all fees are settled and that your medical aid will cover you for a session; otherwise you will have to pay cash. It will also be your responsibility to clarify any queries with your medical aid.
Under certain conditions I can apply for Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMB) on your behalf. By law, medical aids have an option for members to make use of PMB if the diagnosis (ICD-10 code) is covered. This can be discussed with you. Please note that such an application does not guarantee that you will receive PMB sessions.

Payment

It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that they have sufficient funds to pay for a session (if you are on medical aid, please see related information above). In instances where a client is not responsible for the payment, the party who signs the contract will be held responsible for settlement of the account. Payment is due before a follow-up appointment. Interest will be charged on accounts not settled within 30 days, as per the Prescribed Rate of Interest Act. If an account is not paid within two months, the client’s name will be added to a list of non-payers. Should it be necessary, all attorney-, client-, collection, and tracing costs, as well as interest related to recovery of any amount owed by the client, will be the responsibility of the client.

Cancellations

Clients need to be aware that a cancellation fee of R500 will be charged for appointments not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. This is in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, Section 17 (3) (b).

Supervision

At times I may seek supervision from a HPCSA-registered colleague regarding your treatment and this will always be a confidential consultation.

Clients are allowed to take written notes during a sessions, should you wish to do so. However, audio recordings are not allowed.

This is to protect your privacy and confidentiality, as well as to keep to the boundaries of a professional, therapeutic relationship. If you do happen to follow my work on social media, you are welcome to discuss it with me in session.
